Rube Goldberg Machines

For our inquiry is term we are looking at Technology.  We know this is about making our lives easier by meeting a need we have.

We have each imagined a machine to make out lives easier such as:
- hover phones that don't break when you drop them
- Portable tv's
- lockable toy boxes

Today we tried out making Rube Goldberg machines for the first time.  We loved every minute!  We can't wait to try again next time.

Jordan gets his reward

Today Rhubyn and I went to Wendy's because I finished my rewards chart.  Rhubyn did nothing  but I chose him because hes cool and I needed someone to be in the car with Me and Miss Hammond.

We order a chicken Burger, Chips, a drink and a chocolate ice cream.  Miss Hammond ate our fries.  We discovered that if you put the chips in the ice cream and then into the sauce, it tastes yummy.  Miss Hammond frowned at us though!  ;-} We tried to have ice cream and burger, but that was icky.  Chips and Sauce was good, and so was chips and ice cream!  Miss Hammond told us to try Popcorn and Ice cream next time we are at the movies!  We are not convinced.

THANK YOU

A huge thank you to Top Town Tyres on Te Rapa Straight for sponsoring some caps for some special students in Room 9.  They love them.

Technology

Wow look at that car it's awesome!
Whose car is it we asked?
Miss Hammond said it's my dad's car.  We asked Mr Hammond How long have you had that car for? He said well I have had this car since 1991, so how old is it? Mayarni was standing counting and she said 52 !!!! And she was right!

This is the motor. It keeps it going and moving, but if it didn't have a motor and engine then it won't move and go. The motor goes on top of the car so it can cover the engine so it wont get wet.

This is us saying goodbye to Mr Hammond. We had an incredible journey with Mr Hammond. This is the whole class by the awesome car.

This car is a 1961 Sunbeam Rapier, 80 horse power and 1600cc.  Is has a soft top, which means it has a roof that you can put up but do not have too.  You can start the car with winder at the the front if you lose the key.

We were looking at this car to see how technology has changed in cars.  We saw that things were very different when this car was made.  There was no air conditioning, no automatic gearbox, no seat belts in the back and lots more.  We can see the technology makes things easier for us.

On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday they performed in front of parents, grandparents and children. There was room 11 who did white Sunday. White Sunday means what Samoans celebrate each year. Another one is room 13, who did Anzac day. Anzac means, when you honor  the people who died in the army. Also room 16 did Heilala. Middle School Speech Competition

And the winner of the Middle School Speech Competition is . . .

HYRUM!

A fabulous speech presented in a relaxed kiwi fashion.  He took us on a journey from one end of New Zealand all the way through his family home and to the other end.  He told us about important people, places and icons that make NZ what it is on the way.  Hyrum's natural leadership and beautiful personality definitely shone through.  A pleasure to listen to and a well deserved win.

A huge thank you to our fabulous judges! Zac from RTLB, Mr Kalaam our awesome Acting Principal and Talia Evered a wonderful local author.  They had a really tough time judging all the contests.  We appreciate you giving up your precious time to come and share this special day with us.
